If You Were a Typeface, Which One Would You Be?
Did you know that a font is actually the weight in which your typeface appears?
The word font does not refer to the design of the typeface itself. However the words font and typeface are used interchangeably these days. But that still doesn’t mean they are the same thing, especially when you are talking to a typography designer.
If You Were a Typeface, Which One Would You Be?
Typeface designs are more than just letters on a screen; they’re tiny ambassadors of personality. Whether sleek and modern, quirky and playful, or bold and commanding, the fonts we choose say a lot about who we are. So, if you were a typeface, which one would you be?
Take a moment to think about it. Are you the kind of person who exudes classic sophistication like Times New Roman, or do you have a whimsical, unpredictable streak like Comic Sans (no judgment here)? Maybe you’re sleek and efficient like Helvetica or a bit offbeat and fun like Lobster. Typeface designs, like people, carry stories, emotions, and unique vibes. And those typefaces can vary in weight depending on the emphasis you want to give them for certain projects to create specific feelings from your viewer/reader.
For me? My typeface design would be Raleway, probably in the regular-weight font. Why? Because Raleway is modern yet approachable, elegant but not stuffy. It’s a sans-serif typeface with just the right amount of flair—it knows how to make an impression without being over the top. It’s the kind of font that feels equally at home in a cutting-edge design project or a heartfelt love letter. And honestly, isn’t that a great balance to aspire to in life?
Choosing a typeface that represents you is a fun way to think about how design impacts our identity. Just like a carefully chosen typeface can elevate a design, the way we present ourselves can influence how others perceive us. So, next time you’re designing something—or even just thinking about your personal style—ask yourself: What typeface am I today? And what font-weight is my chosen typeface in?
And hey, if you’re still undecided, I’d be happy to help you find your typeface/font match. After all, there’s a whole world of typography out there just waiting to express your unique vibe!
