Bitmap Typography Practice

This project was more difficult than it looks at first glance! First, I made a draft of my fonts using a pencil and some graph paper. I wanted to make one using dots instead of squares because my teacher explained that this may be more challenging. I was up for the challenge! The top row of all-caps letters is what I came up with.

The second row of letters is a bitmap font using squares. I also heard that creating a cursive bitmap font can be a bit more challenging, so I decided to take that on. Getting the curves right and somewhat consistent on each letter was the biggest challenge, but I think it came out pretty good in the end!

What is a bitmap font, you ask? Bitmap fonts consist of a matrix of dots or pixels representing the image of each glyph in each face and size. Bitmap fonts are faster and easier to create in computer code than other font types, but they are not scalable: a bitmap font requires a separate font for each size.
