Downtown Bangor Visitors Guide Design
I would like to begin my summary of this project by crediting the designer of the Downtown Bangor logo and the photographer who took the photos used in my mock-up. These elements were provided to me. I am responsible for the layout, which you will find below.
Front Cover
My goal for this project was to create an updated layout for the Downtown Bangor’s Visitors Guide. This is a booklet that would be on display for tourists to pick up in places like airports, bus stations, hotels, etc. in the Downtown Bangor area.
Middle
I wanted to keep the same color scheme as the logo, so I sampled those colors for my fonts, background, and border. They wanted all sixteen photos to be used in the brochure, but I believe they would finally decide that this may be too many photos to include in such a small booklet. I did my best for their initial request to have all sixteen photos included. You will notice that some of the photos are pixelated. I attempted to adjust the resolution, but they ended up being of poor quality. I believe they knew this but wanted to use them as placeholders for the time being.
The fonts/typefaces I used are Ice Cream by Adobe for the titles on each page, Proxima Nova semibold italic for the subheads, and Proxima Nova regular for the body copy. I stuck with Proxima Nova semibold italic for the caption next to the concert photos. I found that Proxima Nova is a nice, easy-to-read font for an information booklet.
Last Page
The last page seemed to breathe easier with fewer photos.
Overall, this project was fun but not as easy as it may have looked! Everywhere I go, when I see a printed information booklet or anything in print, I tend to really study it and ask myself how easy or, in some cases, how difficult it is for the average person to read.
